Summer Camps 2025

Comics and Animation

July 7 - 11 In this camp we will use a multimedia approach to create a variety of comic art. Then expand on favorite storylines that can then be made into intriguing stopmotion shorts, through drawing, paper fabrication, or claymation.

Art & Activism

June 16 - 18, 20   Art can be a powerful cultural tool for positive change. Explore the rich history of art as activism, and think about issues that are important to you. In addition to other projects, we’ll design “noninvasive” messages to bring into the community! Note: No class June 19

Artist Books

June 30 - July 3   From concertina and accordion, to bound and altered, the variety of artist books that can be made is vast. Within this genre, options abound by adding secret folds or pockets, subtraction poems from book pages, concrete poems, collages, and more. Transform paper or old books into unique works of book art! Note: No class July 4

Expressionist & Abstract Art

July 14 - 18   Explore the power of color, texture, and movement with nontraditional artmaking. Students will draw inspiration from abstract and expressionist approaches to create their own unique dynamic pieces. We’ll spend mornings at Articulture using a variety of art mediums, then in the afternoons walk over to Northern Clay Center for some fun in their clay studio.

Five Center Camps - Eco Art

July 28 - Aug 1 In this uniquely green camp, teens will explore the connection between art and the natural world with sustainable and environmentally friendly art practices. Campers will visit Northern Clay Center, Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center, Textile Center, and Friday at Articulture. At each site, students will work on creative projects and learn to minimize the environmental impacts of artmaking. Note: Register through Northern Clay Center

Animal Instincts

August 4 -8   Animal lovers will study anatomy, habitat, and diet to learn and depict animal species. Learn to capture motion with visits by a variety of pets and a day at Como Zoo. Note: The weather will determine zoo day, drop-off/pick-up at the zoo. Zoo day—no before/aftercare

Journals & Zines

August 10 -15   This class will explore personal journaling and zines through a visual lens using prose, poems, and the incorporation of some unconventional techniques such as printmaking, stenciling, and layering. Simple bookbinding methods will be introduced to complete your personally designed projects.

In the Studio

Aug 18 - 22   Are you a serious artist wanting to refine your creative skills? If so, immerse yourself in a week-long arts intensive. Dive in and focus on techniques, and work on building skills from expert guidance to hone your personal visual style. Leave with a portfolio of work to be proud of.

Teens grades 7 - 12

Grade levels refer to fall 2025  

Daily class programming is 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Week-long art camps are offered throughout the summer. Each week offers a different theme to pique creative interests. Each student can be registered for a number of different camps depending on desired dates and subject matter.

Offered:                                             

  • Curriculum is age appropriate and varies each day        

  • Enrollment dictates if ages are blended for children’s camps            

  • Extended care AM & PM options are available (details below)

  • Snacks & juice ($1 each) - optional

Please bring:

  • Bag lunch and two snacks  

  • Water bottle - recommended

  • Send appropriate gear for outside

  • After lunch, weather permitting, half an hour is spent at the local park

  • Remember to DRESS FOR MESS


Camps days are broken into three parts

Morning:

  • Drop off is 8:50 - 9:00 am*

  • Students go into the studio classroom at 9 am

  • The teaching artist will do introductions as needed, and begin art instruction in relation to the theme of the day

  • Morning session is 9 - noon 

  • Morning 15-minute snack break is midway during the session, and weather determines if class will go out back for some fresh air  

 Noon break:

  • Lunch is a half hour 12:00 - 12:30 pm, and weather dictates if lunch is outside or in

  • 12:30 - 1:00pm the class will gear up and go across the street to Triangle Park to play

  • The park has a full playground, swings, and a climbable dragon sculpture

 Afternoon:

  • 1:00pm class session starts

  • Afternoon 15-minute snack break is midway during the session, and weather determines if class will go out back or stay inside.   

  • Class day ends at 4:00 pm

  • Pickup is 4:00 - 4:10 pm*

 Extended Care:

  • Before care is 8:00 - 9:00 am 

  • After care is 4:00 - 5:30 pm 

 NOTES:

  • * If students are dropped off in the morning before 8:50 am or picked up in the afternoon after 4:10 pm, there is a charge for extended care

  • Extended care has free time to play games, draw, read, etc., there is no structured programming during this time

  • If students are picked up after 5:30 pm there is a charge of $1 per minute
