World Cultures

June 9 - 13 Let’s globetrot around the world to visit various different cultures and places. From familiar to the exotic, we’ll observe how others use art as creative expression.

Art Meets Science

June 16 - 18, 20   This art-lab will scientifically explore fun experiments about cool art facts! From color concepts to how goop works, and much much more. Note: No class June 19

Puppetry

June 23 - 27   With a long history of storytelling, we’ll learn about puppetry worldwide. Our handmade puppets will then tell their own imaginative tales and short stories!

Hammer Away!

June 30 -July 3 Come and make art using hand tools! Learn to safely work with hammers, nails, screwdrivers, drills, clamps, bolts, and more to build some amazing sculptures! Note: No class July 4.

Community Designers

July 7 - 11  Let’s build a city! Young architects, city planners, and designers will create an imagined city complete with roads, parks, houses, neighborhoods, and more!

July 14 - 18   Different types of printmaking techniques enables duplicating multiple images that can be experimented with and added to, which can then be both kept and shared!

Grades 3-6 Camps

Comics to Animation

June 9 - 13   Campers in this dynamic class will create compelling and imaginative comics and storylines. Learn techniques to show detailed thoughts, feelings, and ideas. Using favorite story concepts, students will then also design and animate stopmotion shorts.

Art Car

July 21 - 25 Be part of Articulture’s Art Car team! Campers will conceptualize ideas and narrow it down to one plan for approval on a donated car. Everyone will then go into action to create a moving work of art. Note: As a grand finale—join us Saturday, July 26 (optional) to participate in the Minneapolis Art Car Parade!

5 Centers Camp - Games & Puzzles

June 23 - 27 Using a variety of unique art techniques and materials, students will create original games and puzzles! Spending one day at each place, campers will have a fun-filled week at Northern Clay Center, Highpoint Center for Printmaking, Chicago Avenue Fire Arts Center, Textile Center, and Friday at Articulture, to bring home their very own personalized games and puzzles from each center! Note: Register through Northern Clay Center.

Patterns and Symmetry

July 14 - 18   Explore the fundamentals of artistic design using techniques such as mirrored images, repeated shapes, and natural patterns. Campers will create truly unique artworks by discovering the elements of balance, proportion, and form. Mornings will be at nearby Northern Clay Center, then afternoons we’ll walk over to create with a variety of materials at Articulture. Note: Registration through Northern Clay Center.

Reigning Cats & Dogs

Aug 4 - 8 This popular camp is for the true animal lover! Learn how to capture animals in action with class visits over the week by various furry, scaly, and feathered friends and pets. A mid-week day at Como Zoo will be planned. Note: The weather will determine zoo day, drop off/pickup at the Zoo. No before/aftercare zoo day.

Fairy Dust

July 21 - 25 Step through our magic portal into an enchanted realm! This week we’ll explore the world of wizards, mythical lore, unicorns and other magical creatures!

Urban Naturalists

July 28 - Aug 1   With nature journals in hand we’ll visit nearby parks to learn of native plants and animals by observing, researching, and collecting to use in some cool art projects.

Aug 4 - 8   This camp is for animal lovers! We’ll study wild animals, and have visits from some special furry, scaly, slimy, and feathery pets to observe, learn about, and draw!

Movers & Shakers!

Aug 11 - 15   Kinetic art is what this camp is all about— art that moves! From marimbas and rain sticks, to mobiles and chimes, this art will make use of movement, sound, and wind!

Mysteries of History

Aug 18 - 22   Let’s take a creative adventure back through time—from prehistoric cave paintings, to more recent art genres, with a bunch of creative stops along the way!

Paper Arts!

Aug 25 - 29   Paper is a wonderfully versatile material that can be folded, cut, glued, and more. We’ll make handmade paper, cool books, and a bunch of other paper projects.

Daily class programming is 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Week-long art camps are offered throughout the summer. Each week offers a different theme to pique creative interests. The camps for children are usually broken up into 2 different levels for age-appropriate curricula: grades K - 2 and grades 3 - 6. Each student can be registered for a number of different camps depending on desired dates and subject matter.

Offered:                                             

  • Curriculum is age appropriate and varies each day        

  • Enrollment dictates if ages are blended for children’s camps            

  • Extended care AM & PM options are available (details below)

  • Snacks & juice ($1 each) - optional

Please bring:

  • Bag lunch and two snacks  

  • Water bottle - recommended

  • Send appropriate gear for outside

  • After lunch, weather permitting, half an hour is spent at the local park

  • Remember to DRESS FOR MESS

Camp days are broken into three parts

Morning:

  • Drop off is 8:50 - 9:00 am*

  • Students go into the studio classroom at 9 am

  • The teaching artist will do introductions as needed, and begin art instruction in relation to the theme of the day

  • Morning session is 9 - noon 

  • Morning 15-minute snack break is midway during the session, and weather determines if class will go out back for some fresh air  

 Noon break:

  • Lunch is a half hour 12:00 - 12:30 pm, and weather dictates if lunch is outside or in

  • 12:30 - 1:00pm the class will gear up and go across the street to Triangle Park to play

  • The park has a full playground, swings, and a climbable dragon sculpture

 Afternoon:

  • 1:00pm class session starts

  • Afternoon 15-minute snack break is midway during the session, and weather determines if class will go out back or stay inside.   

  • Class day ends at 4:00 pm

  • Pickup is 4:00 - 4:10 pm*

 Extended Care:

  • Before care is 8:00 - 9:00 am 

  • After care is 4:00 - 5:30 pm 

 NOTES:

  • If students are dropped off in the morning before 8:50 am or picked up in the afternoon after 4:10 pm, there is a charge for extended care

  • Extended care has free time to play games, draw, read, etc., there is no structured programming during this time

  • If students are picked up after 5:30 pm there is a charge of $1 per minute
