Wildflower Embroidery
Tuesday, May 13, 6:00 - 8:30 pm Spring is the perfect time to be inspired by the beauty of nature. How about immortalizing some Minnesota flowers through this ancient art form. Learn some basic stitches and strategies by the exploration of traditional flower embroidery techniques. These skills will then enable you to create numerous embroidered designs on clothing, pillow covers, and more! Note: Materials fee $6.
Needle Felting Intro
Tuesday, May 13, 6:00 - 8:30 pm Is spring fever making you restless? Harness that energy for the power of art by repeatedly stabbing loose wool until it turns into a beautiful creation! In this class, students will learn the basics of needle-felting, and marvel at the fact that such an active process can yield such soft, really cool, and sometime adorable creations! Note: Materials fee $6.
Art & Activism
Thursdays, Apr 24 – May 8, 6:00 - 9:00 pm This class will explore how art can be a catalyst for both cultural and political discourse. We will design "noninvasive" creations to subtly integrate thought-provoking messages into the public realm. Participants will find ways to articulate complex social issues through simple visual and conceptual ideas that balance between artistic expression and impactful community engagement. Note: Materials fee $6.
Intro to Printmaking
4 weeks, Wednesdays, Apr 9 – 30, 6:00 - 8:30 pm SMultiple printmaking techniques will be taught in this class including intaglio, gel, relief, monotype, and more. In addition to hand-pressing tools, our etching press will be put into use for several printing methods. With the ability to create multiple images, prints can be added to journals, framed, and gifted. In addition to those wanting to explore new print techniques, newcomers to printmaking are encouraged to join! Note: Materials fee $14.
Drawing & Painting Studio
7 weeks, Mondays, Apr 14 – May 26, 7:00 - 9:30 pm If you are just beginning, learn the basic fundamentals of artmaking, and benefit from individual guidance through a number of skill-building steps. More advanced students can work on and expand their basic skills in a creative and supportive atmosphere. Dry and water based materials will be explored. All are welcome. Note: Materials fee $4. Small supply list discussed first day of class, or bring desired art materials.
Fine Silver Clay Jewelry
3 weeks, Sundays, Apr 20 – May 4, 5:00 - 8:00 pm Never thought you could actually create real silver jewelry? Well think again! This kiln-fired clay turns into 100% silver once fired, enabling the ability to create truly striking and unique jewelry. Learn the basics of working with metal clay and design pieces and incorporate surface textures. Create a minimum of 3 to 4 pure silver pieces such as earrings, pendants, charms, and more. Then start accessorizing in style! Note: Materials fee $50.
Fused Glass Wind Chimes
2 weeks, Tuesdays, Apr 22 & May 6, 6:00 - 9:00 pm Are you mesmerized by the sound of wind chimes? How about making your own! Learn fundamentals of design, glass cutting, and kiln fusing to create one with stunning colors! Week one will be for making chimes ready for firing. Week two will be assembling the fired pieces, with a choice to add elements of beads, found objects, or personal trinkets. You will leave with a beautiful wind chime to grace your home, porch, or garden. Note: Materials fee $35.
Metalsmithing Intro
3 weeks, Thursdays, Apr 24 – May 8, 6:00 - 9:00 pm Learn basic skills to cut, hammer, and saw simple shapes using two metals from antiquity—copper and brass. A variety of tools will also be utilized to create different surface textures. Then with a wide selection of beads, components, and findings, participants will be shown how to finish, polish, and assemble their final pieces. Perfect for making a pair of earrings, pendant, or artistic key fob for yourself or as a unique gift. Note: Materials fee $45.
Meditative Mindfulness
3 weeks, Wednesdays, May 7 – 21, 6:00 - 8:30 pm Somatic artmaking practices reconnect the body and the mind to aid in easing stress and anxiety. Find solace in creating simple and colorful artwork with a focus on a meditative approach to the creative process. Color theory and mind-body connections will be discussed. These practices will yield beautiful reminders of how art, even for beginners, can help us self-regulate, soothe, and heal. Note: Materials fee $8.
Fused Glass Jewelry
2 weeks, Thursdays, May 15 & 22 , 6:00 - 9:00 pm Students will make striking fused glass pieces with a variety of colorful and dichroic glass. Once designed the pieces will then be kiln-fused. The following week participants will be turn these fused pieces into pendants, pins, or earrings by learning how to drill into glass, use various findings, and add embellishments. Use as uniquely created accessories or as wonderful gifts. Note: Materials fee $40.
