Summer Education Internship
About Articulture
Articulture is a non-profit arts education organization offering visual arts classes and workshops for ages 4 year through adults. We also have on-going partnership projects that support community development through creativity as well as outreach programs that aim to increase accessibility to the visual arts. The outcome is experiences for all participants that serve the artistic and social needs of the individual and community.
About the internship
Each summer camp season- from June through August- interns have the opportunity to work side-by-side with professional artists in an educational setting serving children grades PreK-6.
Interns will assist our teaching-artists in the classroom, helping with: classroom management, class prep, and general classroom organization. Interns will also oversee children's lunch and break times.
Summer camps run 8:00 am-5:30 pm, and are five days long. Interns are scheduled by the week, for either the first half of the day or the second half.
Benefits
Interns will be a part of a growing Minneapolis art center that places emphasis on the creative process—the act of making art—over product. By the end of this internship program, interns will have first-hand knowledge of teaching philosophies and curriculum development, while gaining valuable experience in a non-profit arts setting. Interns will also have the opportunity to network with professional artists from the community.
Interns will receive a stipend in the middle and again at the end of their internship. Stipend total is depended upon internship hours, with a max of $800 for the summer.
Who should apply and when?
Articulture needs highly dedicated, self-motivated and focused individuals to assist art teachers and administrative staff. Recent graduates, college students or career-changers interested in learning about non-profit arts organizations, art education and community outreach are welcome to apply. Candidates working on or holding a BA or BFA in Studio Art will be considered first.
Some experience working with children is preferred. Intern must be available 25-27.5 hours per week for the duration of the summer camp season. Each intern will receive about 2-3 weeks off during this time.
We require all staff, instructors, and interns to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
There is no deadline to apply. We accept applications year round, and begin considering applicants on a rolling basis starting November 1. We take five interns each summer.
