Favorite artistic medium and why? I don't have a favorite medium, because my favorite thing to do is combine different mediums, but I do have a strong preference for 3D art. My favorite type of art to make is puppets, because it combines tons of different skills, and there is endless potential for creativity, magic, storytelling and surprise!

Yulia Petrova

Pronouns: She/her
How long you've been teaching? Tajikistan-born multimedia artist, Art teacher at an international school since 2020
What age groups do you teach with us?  K-12 and adults
Favorite artistic medium and why? Favorite medium is oil painting, collages and graphic arts, but also largely depends on the idea being expressed, as medium to me is a vehicle that drives meaning into the viewer's mind and soul. Sometimes you need a four-wheel drive to deliver meaning, sometimes a public bus will do, sometimes an electric car works most efficiently and elegantly. I love all mediums and enjoy mixing them together!
A style/medium of art that you would love to learn how to do? In the future, I would love to animate and tell stories through moving images.

Soft sculpture/fiber arts; because it has such an array of possibilities as to what can be created, while still incorporating traditional fiber techniques (sewing, knitting, crocheting, braiding, felting, embroidery, rug making… etc). Also, the fact that it can be incorporated into performance art, creating a whole new perception.
