Class Schedule for Current Session

This is the third level of age-appropriate curriculum that encourages creative young minds and active hands. Participants will increase knowledge of basic art concepts and terminology. Note: No class week of July 4

Young artists explore the world of visual arts by learning basic concepts and terminology through 2- and 3-dimensional art projects. Classes foster cognitive development, small motor skills, and creative thinking. Note: No class week of July 4

Geared towards the youngest of artists, this class cultivates cognitive development, fine motor skills, and creative thinking. Little minds and hands will be kept busy with visual play, storytelling, and more. Note: No class week of July 4.

Celebrate the end of school with a three day, Kinetic Art themed camp! Sign up for either half-day option, or all-day option. Kids enter a world where their minds are hard at work while having fun. They’ll make art with a variety of creative studio themes and media, read books, hear storytelling, get physical exercise, see old friends, make new ones and everything in between. See dates below. This camp class is for students interested in enhancing their creative abilities. Learn techniques used by artists to draw what they see. How artists choose to interpret their observations will also be examined. Projects will incorporate color concepts and several painting techniques to foster creative development and personal artistic interests.

This summer intensive is for students who truly love to immerse themselves in art. This class will help refine technical drawing and painting skills – use of line, shade, color, perspective, proportions, and composition will be discussed. Personal Interests will also be explored, including work towards college entry portfolio.

Art can be used as a powerful tool to raise awareness and create change in the public realm. Explore the rich history of community art and activism, and issues that have personal meaning for you. With assistance, design a project(s) to bring to the community and be guided through the process getting your message out! Note: No class Wed, July 4.

Learn different approaches to comics by using selected imagery to enhance storylines. This class will take a multi-media approach to create all forms of comic art. Students can choose the most intriguing concepts to focus on, individually or collectively, through drawing or claymation to create a stop-motion animated video.

Often viewed negatively, what actually can make tattoo art and graffiti pleasing? Ideas and content in relation to artistic expression will be examined— graffiti transformed from criminal past to accepted urban art, when art is appropriate or offensive, and how some tattoo concepts go beyond skin deep. Focus will be on design, pattern, line, shade, color, symmetry, movement, and texture with drawing, ink, paint and paper. Note to parents: No tattooing will take place in or through this class.

Create original jewelry using colorful and dicroic glass. Make at least 4 colorful and dazzling fused glass pins, pendants or earrings. Add to your personal accessories or give as wonderful gifts. Note: Materials fee $32 payable on day of class.

Papermaking series #3: Everything about your journal or sketchbook should be a unique expression of you...and that includes the journal or sketchbook itself. These four days will focus on creating our own paper from scratch which we will use to cover our handmade sketchbook or journal. Instruction on simple binding techniques will be included. All materials are provided. Note: Materials fee $10 payable first day of class, if desired, add $15 to purchase and keep supplies.

Do you have a desire to be creative, but feel you don’t have artistic skills? In this class you will learn different ways to create works of art without possessing refined drawing skills. Create textures, patterns, and fine art imagery by learning simple stamping and printing stenciling, and layering methods. Note: Materials fee $12 payable first day.

Discover your “Artist within” in this self-exploratory class. For artists and non-artists alike, this class is an opportunity to experience the satisfaction of artistic creation while also letting loose, experimenting and having fun. Using a range of activities from writing to painting to printmaking you will create works of fine art by exercising the right side of your brain. Note: Materials fee $10 payable first day.

Beginners who think they can’t do art will discover alternative methods of creativity—collage, stencil and monotype and more. More advanced participants will focus on color use and composition while learning new techniques. Bring recycled treasures, cut-outs, fabric scraps, packing material, wrapping paper, etc. Let the creativity begin! Note: Additional supplies will be discussed first day of class.

Learn the principles and techniques of the ancient tradition of Sumi-e ink Painting. Returning students will continue and learn next steps. Participants will work on basic brush strokes needed to paint bamboo, orchid, people, and landscape. Controlling water and ink on sensitive Asian paper is key to being expressive using an artisan brush. Note: No previous experience is required. Materials fee $25 payable first day of class.

Capture the urban landscape from coffee bars and skylines to parks and gardens. Instruction will be in the form of insights, advice and assistance with problem solving, technical help, and issues of “seeing” and composition. Supply choices for mobility will be discussed. Note: Beginning Drawing or equivalent recommended. Bring desired supplies for easy transport. Meet at ArtiCulture first day.

Learn basic bookbinding techniques as well as a few more elaborate and unique design methods to create your very own hand-crafted books. Techniques include pamphlet, accordion, stab-binding, coptic, belgian, and pop-ups. With instructive help, let your curiosity guide you to explore the wonderful and infinite world of bookmaking. Note: No previous experience necessary. Materials fee $25 payable first day.

If just beginning, benefit from individual guidance through a variety of skill-building projects. More advanced students can expand their base skills in a creative support system. All levels welcome—dry or water based media. Note: Needed supply list will be discussed first day or bring desired materials.

This workshop clarifies how arts learning enhances academic achievement and helps participants explore ways of incorporating arts education into class curriculum. The pedagogy of allowing students to find their own path through the “creative process” will be discussed. Leave with concrete ways to provide your students with quality educational experiences through the arts. Note: $5 supply fee included.

Learn the basics of silver PMC (precious metal clay) to make beautiful one-of-a-kind jewelry. Participants will design and complete at least three or four pieces (pendants, earrings etc) in this workshop. Note: First workshop day is mandatory. Materials fee $45 payable first day.

Papermaking series #2: Who says paper alone can’t be art? In this workshop we will create our own handmade papers that will be taken to another level by incorporating techniques of pulp painting and collage. Note: Materials fee $10 payable first day of class, if desired, add $15 to purchase and keep supplies.

Papermaking series #1: Technology has taken over most forms of communication, however, the art of the handwritten note should not be forgotten. Enjoy a four day intensive papermaking workshop where you will create your own handmade stationary, as well as matching envelopes. Note: Materials fee $10 payable first day of class, if desired, add $15 to purchase and keep supplies

Learn the ancient art of pewter metal casting. The class will be taught techniques used during the Middle Ages, and will experiment, casting objects such as buttons or medallions from existing molds. Students will then learn how to carve a mold out of soapstone to cast original designs. Note: Process involves molten metal. Protective clothing must be worn— closed-toe shoes, long sleeves, long pants. Hand and eye protection will be supplied. Materials fee $25 payable first day of class. No class April 20.

With a little soapy water, transform wool fibers into colorful beads and pendants. Participants will make a cuff style bracelet and other jewelry accessories or buttons. Learn to layer colors, shape, coil adn embellish your felted creations for added flare. Note: Bring 2-3 hand towels and an old bath towel. Materials fee $15 payable on day of class. Dress for mess.

Combine wool fibers and fabric for a beautiful felted table runner or wall hanging. Several embellishing techniques will be taught to add creative touches through color and texture to design something truly unique. Note: Bring 2 to 3 hand towels and an old bath towel. Materials fee $25 payable on day of class. Dress for mess.

Create original jewelry using with colorful and dicroic glass. Make at least 4 colorful and dazzling fused glass pins, pendants or earrings. Great for gift giving or keeping as personal accessory additions. Note: Materials fee $32 payable on day of class.

Learn the art of torch firing PMC silver metal clay, to create jewelry and silver artwork without the necessity of a kiln. This amazing process, enables students to create one-of-a-kind silver pieces in just 4 hours. Note: Prerequisite: Previous PMC experience. Note: Materials fee $45 payable on day of class. Additional clay can be purchased.
